Procrastination

Sometimes when I have a very large creative task ahead of me, I find small necessary things to do first. In other words, I procrastinate. Although, in art, this is also an exercize in revving up your creative flow and slowing down your mind. I have a large tree painting commission to finish. For the last month, my mind has been busy with getting the farm ready for winter, putting the garden to bed, fixing the greenhouse, and turning the compost piles. Now I'm inside and this large painting is staring me down, waving at me, and calling "yoohoo!!". So instead of avoiding my studio, I drew this little guy today and then promptly cleaned the studio (phew!). This helps me shift gears, slow down, and go within to the place I need to be in order to make good art. Maybe tomorrow I'll dig into the large tree painting. Or I'll draw another little bird or two. Eventually it will be an easy transition, and that beautiful tree will be the only option.

Happy Autumn everyone!
